Arapahoe County Human Services recognized for timely, accurate work
Arapahoe County's Department of Human Services has been recognized by the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) with two 2022 C-Stat awards for their commitment to delivering services to vulnerable populations. For the fifth year, the department received the Distinguished Performer Award and for the first time, received the Most Improved Large County award.
C-Stat is a performance-based analysis strategy in CDHS that allows every program to focus on and improve performance outcomes.
Arapahoe County is the only large county to receive the C-Stat Distinguished Performer Award five times, including 2022. It recognizes the County’s efforts to meet or exceed timeframe goals for timeliness, safety and accuracy in their work. Counties that meet their goals are more likely to meet the needs of individuals and families in their community.
“It is absolutely critical that we process applications for food, financial, and medical assistance as quickly and as accurately as possible,” said Cheryl Ternes, Arapahoe County’s director of Human Services. “Our expectation to connect residents in an expedited manner empowers them to meet the most basic needs and focus on building a more secure future.”
The Most Improved County award includes all of the CDHS performance measures, but recognizes improvements including in Intake, for every month in 2022, victims of suspected abuse or neglect were seen within appropriate timelines. Arapahoe County Department of Human Services restructured internal processes to gain efficiencies to assure the safety of alleged victims.
“I could not be more proud of our Human Services teams and the work they do every day to serve our community and those most in need,” said Commissioner Carrie Warren-Gully, Board of Commissioners’ liaison to Human Services. “Their work is a cornerstone of strengthening families and ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents. It is difficult work, it is complex work and in Arapahoe County it’s work that is done not only with speed, but with heart and compassion.”
